1. United States Capitol
The famous meeting place for the US congress, United States Capitol is one of the most familiar landmarks in Washington DC. The Library of Congress and the Supreme Court lie in the east, and the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument lie to the west.
2. Lincoln Memorial
Honouring Abraham Lincon, the Lincon Memorial is designed by Henry Bacon. This structure consists of 36 columns of Colorado marble and the names of 48 contiguous states on the colonnade along with the dates of their admission to the Union.
3. Washington Monument
Built in the honor of the first president of the US, George Washington, The Washington Monument is the 555-foot marble obelisk tower over Washington, DC. This monument was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in two phases, and deisgned by the architect Robert Mills.
4. The White House
Formerly an Executive Mansion, The White House is the official residence of the US president at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. in Washington, D.C. Spread at 18 acres, this monument’s interior tours are incredible - Blue, East, Green, and Red Rooms, the Ballrooms, and the State Dining Room is what every tourist would want to see in this iconic building.
5. Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum
Part of the Smithsonian Institution, Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum is divided in two facilities: the Udvar-Hazy Center at Washington Dulles International Airport and a huge building on the Mall in Washington, DC. Founded in 1946, the museum moved to the mall in 1976 but it couldn’t display all the artefacts due to which they had to open another facility in 2003.
